Today was the first trimester screening. This was an optional screening but we decided that we want to know for sure if there's any issues with the baby. I had slept over at my parent's house the night before so i could get to the appointment easily. I woke up at 6 this morning for some reasons. I tried to lay there for another hour. I called Deonn to wake him up around 7:30 thinking he was still asleep. Surprisingly he was already at work. So i got up and made myself some breakfast. Gosh, i'm already eating like a pregnant woman. I started out with some soy milk. So cold and yummy. I wanted some eggs so i made 2 to begin with and realized there's only 1 left in the carton so i decided to might as well make 3 eggs. Eww, i know. Then toasted some baguette. I took a picture and sent it to Boom and Nga, Boom was drooling all over it for sure. This breakfast always reminds me of my childhood in Vietnam. Every morning, my mom would make that for me and i was always looking forward to it. At the time it was only 1 egg. After breakfast, it was still early so i went back so sleep. Ha, do i sound like a pig or what.
I finally got up and decided to put on some make up while hanging out with my mom. Geez, she keeps everything. You probably can find the whole department store worth of makeup in her draw. She started saying that Nga and I don't spend enough time bonding with her. That we need some "mother-daughter" day. Actually, that's not a bad idea. I gotta tell Nga about it.
Great, playing with makeup got me late. I didn't know where the doctor office was so i had to use GPS. I really thought it would be near AFCU near Fairfax Corner. Boy, was i wrong, it's on the other side of Lee Jackson Mem. Hwy. Almost near Harris Teeter. Which reminded me, that last time i was there. It was a morning that i had just came back from going out with Chloe. It was one of those crazy nites. I must have looked like crap. I couldn't remember why but i was supposed to meet Boo there to pick up some stuff. He was building one of the salons for his sister. I still remember the way he looked at me. It was like a longing look, but also a look that he didn't understand why i was out so late and looked like crap, like i was throwing my life away or something. It's funny how life leads us. Years ago, we thought we would be married by now and probably would have kids already. Now, he's engaged and about to get married this summer. And me, a baby out of wedlock is on the way. Yay!!! Not!
Anyway, enough of pondering, back to reality. Apparently, Deonn made it to the doctor even before me, that was interesting. The doctor office is super swanky. I can't imagine what the rent for this place is. Deonn was filling out the paperwork for me. The section they asked what my race was, he put "Vietnamese". Yes, "lol" moment, i had to cross it out and put "Asian". I wonder what was he thinking.
I didn't have to get undressed, which was great, only had to lift up my shirt. The doctor put the gooey stuff on my belly and we proceeded to look at the monitor. It was just like how i see people on movies/TV. There was a figure on the screen i could make out the head, body, hands, feet. We even saw the fingers when the baby decided to wave at us. That was really cute. I didnt think the baby would have everything at this point. The sonogram showed that i'm 11 weeks 2 days. We were waiting for the baby to change position so we could measure his neck. Well, i guess he was sleeping because he wouldn't change his position. I suggested to get up and jump around to sort of rock him. But the doctor said no, he said, we just had to wait, the baby will move. Sure enough, he moved and we got the neck measurement. It was a little nerve-wrecking, I was so worried because the neck figure looked so fat on the screen. Anyhow, the result turned out to be normal, but it was only 75% for sure. They had to get the blood test from me to be 85% sure. I guess the last 15% would have to left up to fate because i do not want to stick a needle in my belly and increase the chance of a miscarriage.
The next part was not pleasant at all, it was a trans-vaginal test to measure my cervix. This part, i had to take off my pants. Pretty much they put a condom on a skinny penis looking thing and put it inside of me. It was not too uncomfortable as i imagined. I guessed i had prepped myself pretty well from conversations with Jenny and Chloe. That turned out fine as well. I need to come back in 4 weeks for another measurement.
Today appointment was very exciting. The doctor gave us a few pictures of the baby. Deonn has recorded and took a bunch of pictures as well. I was very glad to see the baby lounging around in my belly. It seems so peaceful in there. He seems to enjoy it.
