It has been a discussion for a long time, in fact, this whole first year: when and why to have London ears pierced. Ideally, we would like to have it done at the doctor's office. Some clinics do offer that service, like where Olivia is going. However, London's doctor's office is not doing that. So we waited and waited, looked around. I even called to Olivia's doctor office to see if they could do so for non-patients, the answer was no.
Couple weeks ago, we finally came to the decision to take her to the mall. This is not an endorsement for Claires but it was an obvious choice since it's at the mall and i have had my ears pierced at Claires before (as an adult). They seem to know what they are doing. I, myself, had a horrific experience as a child with ears piercing (not from Claires) so i was very against this whole thing from the beginning. However, i know it's not fair to base it on my own experience alone. Plus, all baby girls look so adorable with their earrings and I want London to be like them too. It seems like a compromise that we "waited" for a year to do this.
We made a stop at Rite-Aid to pick up some sanitizing items. Deonn walked out of the store with bags of cotton balls, anti-bacterial (to clean the piercing gun), a spray bottle (not sure what that was for). I think he bought the whole shelf of first-aid section.
We got to the mall around 8pm (the mall closes at 9:30) so that gave us some time to grab something from the food court to eat and feed London before this "lifetime" event. She finished her meal and was a happy baby, little did she know we were about to pierce her skin.
We chose the 18k Gold big ball earrings. They are to stay for the first 6 weeks then we can use our own earrings. They were actually sealed in a sterilized container so there was no need for us to make that trip to Rite-Aid. I think i was more nervous than ever, so Deonn had London and we filled out all the required paperwork. He held London while the lady got started.
London cried for a half second when they pierced the ear. I think it was more of a shock factor than pain factor. She did awesomely and we were so proud of her.
Afterward, we went to Auntie Aunt's for some pretzels and went to Stride Rite to check out some snowshoes for London. There was a carousel outside of the store, so London rid it with some other kids. It was a great time for her. She loved it. My baby girl is growing up so fast. It seems like yesterday that she was in my tummy and now she was riding the carousel all by herself.
